“Scaling up Ocean Action Based on Science and Innovation for the Implementation of Goal 14: Stocktaking, Partnerships and Solutions”
The second UN Ocean Conference, organised in Lisbon from 27 June to 1 July 2022, was an opportunity for key stakeholders and decision makers involved in ocean governance to address number of key problems that require common shared solutions based on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Addressing climate change, marine pollution, unsustainable fishing, invasive species and the loss of marine habitats and biodiversity were embedded in high level discussions and numerous side events.
As part of the side events, the importance of ICZM Protocol and Conceptual framework for MSP were emphasised as well as implementation of successful ecosystem-based approaches across the Mediterranean, in particular in Bosnia and Hercegovina, Croatia, Montenegro and Slovenia.
As a result of partnership with IOC UNESCO PAP/RAC was privileged to take part in handover ceremony and receive the multilingual MSPglobal editions of the MSP Challenge board game organised by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management of Netherlands. The ceremony was a great opportunity illustrating joint efforts of MSP partners supporting MSP initiatives on a global transboundary level. With the support of the MSP Challenge board game PAP/RAC will further increase MSP capacities of Mediterranean marine and coastal stakeholders through interactive simulation, creative engagement and planning hand-on exercise.
Second UN Ocean Conference was concluded with high hopes for ground-breaking steps to follow in the international ocean governance, in particular regarding regulating conservation and sustainable use in the high seas. PAP/RAC team is proud to be a part of such an important event and will continue working together with the Mediterranean partners to strenghten management of our common coastal and marine resources.
